In a demonstration of academic and institutional solidarity, the leadership of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) College of Health Sciences has paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo.

 

Dr. Baidoo, a distinguished alumnus of KNUST and part-time lecturer at the Department of Surgery, warmly received the delegation led by the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christian Agyare. The visit served as a momentous occasion to extend heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Baidoo on his new role and to reaffirm the enduring partnership between the two institutions.

The delegation emphasized the historic collaboration between KNUST and KATH in the training of medical students, which has been central to producing highly skilled healthcare professionals over the decades. In light of this legacy, the Provost and his team underscored the urgent need to deepen this relationship to address the evolving healthcare challenges in the Ashanti Region and beyond.

A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion of the 50th Anniversary Legacy Project of the School of Medical Sciences (SMS), aimed at constructing an ultra-modern office and lecture hall complex at KATH. This initiative, the leadership explained, is a strategic step to resolve the infrastructure deficits caused by the growing student population. Professor Agyare called for the KATH CEO's and hospital management's full support in bringing this project to fruition.

The team reiterated KNUST’s unwavering commitment to working closely with KATH to deliver excellent healthcare education and services. They highlighted the strategic importance of enhancing specialized healthcare delivery and the pivotal role of the institution in training healthcare professionals.

In his response, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo expressed profound appreciation for the visit and the warm messages from his alma mater. He acknowledged the vital role KNUST has played in shaping the healthcare workforce in Ghana, particularly through its academic staff who also serve as clinicians and researchers at KATH. During his tenure, Dr. Baidoo assured the delegation of his full commitment to strengthening the collaboration between KATH and KNUST, stating that “our collective effort will lead to improved healthcare delivery and a stronger academic-health service partnership.”
