As the Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, I extend to you a warm welcome to the Faculty.
The faculty of Allied Health Sciences was established about 15 years ago from the then School of Medical Sciences. The Faculty has three departments namely, the Departments of Medical Diagnostics, Nursing and Physiotherapy, and Sports Sciences; and we train professionals such as nurses, midwives, laboratory scientists, radiologists, sonographers, sports and exercise scientists, and physiotherapists.
The Faculty has well-equipped skills laboratories for the training of our students on campus but besides that, we also have access to other well-equipped facilities such as Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi South Regional Hospitals, and Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) where students have access to hi-tech equipment for training and research.
The faculty also has a Memorandum of Understanding with well-known international universities in Europe and North America such as Westminster University, Bonn University, Nottingham University, Ramapo University among others and this has given our students the opportunity to go abroad and learn other skills which might not be available in Ghana. All these have made our products well trained and better prepared for the job market which has been testified by many facilities in the country and abroad where our students work. Our agents of change have been well spoken of all over the world.
Because of the nature of our programmes we get a number of foreign students from all over the world but more especially from the sub-region into our programs. Likewise, the Faculty attracts a number of exchange students from Europe and North America during the summer breaks.
The faculty has also undertaken a number of research to solve local problems. Through this research, the Faculty in collaboration with its research partners have found a cure for some diseases like elephantiasis and river blindness.
The faculty is well-positioned for teaching, learning, and research to solve local problems.
