The College of Health Sciences (CHS), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is proud to announce that Dr (Mrs) Lilian Antwi Boateng, Lead Scientist of the Immunohaematology Research Group, has been awarded a €7,000 grant by the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) to support the training of healthcare professionals through a specialised workshop in the Ashanti Region.

The grant will support a training workshop aimed at strengthening knowledge and capacity in red blood cell (RBC) alloimmunisation. Facilitated by local and international experts, the workshop will educate healthcare professionals on the burden of RBC alloimmunisation, its consequences and management within Ghana and across Africa. It will also provide practical, hands-on training for laboratory professionals in testing for and interpreting RBC antibody results.

The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to building the capacity of healthcare and laboratory professionals and enhancing the management of patients affected by red blood cell alloimmunisation. By bringing together expertise from Ghana and beyond, the workshop will create an important platform for knowledge exchange, skills development and collaboration in addressing challenges in immunohaematology.
