KNUST Faculty of Allied Health Sciences pays a courtesy visit to the Professor Otchere Addae Mensah, CEO of KATH

FAHS delegation visits CEO of KATH

 

A delegation from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Faculty of Allied Health Sciences on the 24th of May 2023 paid a courtesy visit to Professor Otchere Addae Mensah to send a congratulatory message on his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Professor Otchere Addae Mensah who is an affiliate of the Department of Medical Diagnostics expressed his profound gratitude for the kind gesture and also attributed his achievement to the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences for the formative training and experience he gathered while serving at the Faculty.

Professor Addae Mensah also highlighted his new role and challenges he has tackled so far as the CEO of KATH, some policies he has implemented, and the results it has churned. He also stated that KATH still holds a high affiliation with the KNUST College of Health Sciences as a clinical teaching site.

Speaking on behalf of the KNUST delegation, Professor Veronica Dzomeku, the Dean of FAHS reiterated that the visit is made to congratulate him on his elevation to the office of a CEO and she also affirmed that the entire staff of FAHS that he will excel in his new mandate.

Professor Dzomeku also added that the Faculty of Allied of Health Sciences has chocked a series of positive developments over the few years citing the opening of the new KNUST School of Nursing and Midwifery, students of FAHS providing services at the KNUST hospital, and the separation of Department of Medical Diagnostics into the Department of Medical Imaging and Department of Laboratory Science.

Professor Otchere Addae-Mensah was appointed the CEO of KATH on the 8th of November 2022. He is an associate professor of Haematology and Immunology at the Department of Medical Diagnostics, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences in the College of Health Sciences. He is the Deputy Director, of Student Affairs and the President of the University Teachers’ Association, KNUST.

He is a trained medical doctor and holds a BSc in Human Biology and an MBChB from the School of Medical Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), an MSc. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Westminster in London-UK, and a PhD. in Immunology and Biotechnology from the prestigious RWTH University in Aachen, Germany.

Professor Addae-Mensah has undertaken courses in Pharmacovigilance and Pharmaco-epidemiology from the University of Bordeaux in France and completed the taught component of an MBA programme in Strategic Management.

He previously worked as a researcher in the Pharmaceutical Product Development Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology in Germany and as a Resident in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pathology at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, among others.
