As part of KNUST’s vision to deliver quality healthcare training and also to sustain its lead as the best global university in Quality Education, a team from the Department of Medical Diagnostics led by the head, Prof Alexander Yaw Debrah, visited MDS Lancet Laboratories for possible collaboration in the training of Medical Laboratory scientists.
The visit was a result of a request from MDS Lancet, one of the leading medical laboratory services in Ghana, expressing interest in receiving graduates of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for an internship at their facility.
Upon arrival, the team was met by the laboratory management chaired by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Paul Sekyere Nyantakyi. After the introduction, the team led by the CEO toured and inspected the various units within the lab. These units included the Haematology, Chemical pathology, Microbiology, Histopathology, and Molecular Biology laboratories.
In addition to training our interns at the facility, the team also discussed possible collaborations in areas such as research, vacation attachments, and students' field trips, in order to narrow the gap between academia and industry.
The Department hopes and believes that this collaboration will go a long way to help the training of our MLS students as MDS Lancet is one of the best private organisations in Ghana with partners in South Africa and France and has about 28 branches nationwide.
