OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of the Department of Nursing have been primarily employed as:

  1. Nursing and Midwifery Officers in various healthcare facilities within Ghana and abroad.
  2. Emergency nurses in emergency health facilities
  3. Tutors in nursing and midwifery training colleges in Ghana and abroad
  4. Lecturers in various universities in Ghana and abroad
  5. Researchers in universities, health facilities, and other relevant public and private institutions.
  6. Health services managers.
  7. Nurse consultants.

VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT

Vision

The vision of the Department is to be internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for nursing and midwifery education, practice, leadership and research in Africa; producing competent nurses and midwives to support the health sector in Ghana, Africa and the rest of the world.

Mission

The mission is to advance knowledge in science and technology through creating a dynamic environment to empower students to succeed by integrating career-focused education and professional skills, research, and community engagement in the training of nurses, midwives, and students in specialized nursing programmes to improve the quality of life.

PARTNERSHIPS/ COLLABORATIONS

A number of University Colleges running Nursing and Midwifery programmes are affiliated to the KNUST/ Department of Nursing, namely;

  1. Garden City University College, Kumasi
  2. St. Karol’s School of Nursing, Accra

 

All diploma-awarding nursing and midwifery training institutions under the Ministry of Health (MOH), Ghana are affiliated to KNUST through the Department of Nursing. The Department also runs BSc. Nursing, BSc. Midwifery programmes in some selected Nursing and Midwifery training colleges in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
